Mission Statement
My Name is Shane McMunn and the aim of this website is to not only promote my practice here in Sligo, but to promote and educate the public about Traditional Chinese Medicine in all its guises, tuina, acupuncture, herbal medicine and so on. I also aim to provide information about the much misunderstood topic of Traditional Chinese Martial Arts or Kung Fu, which in some ways is hard to separate from the Medical Arts.
First a little about me.
I began my studies of Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture in 2006 at the Irish College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ICTCM). During my first year I meet Errol Lynch of Touch Tuina and upon graduation in 2009 travelled with him to Hangzhou, China to complete an internship in acupuncture and tuina at Zhejiang College of TCM. I continued to study tuina with Errol traveling to London once a month until 2011, when I moved to London for a year to study Mandarin Chinese.
I have also completed further studies in Chinese Medicine including:
- The Four Phases of the Menstrual Cycle & Their Treatment with Prof. Shulan Tang
- Master Tung's Acupuncture in the Treatment of Pain with Dr. Henry McCann
- Treatment of Digestive and Endocrine Disorders with Master Tung's Acupuncture with Dr. Henry McCann
I have also been studying Yang Family Taijiquan (Tai Chi) since 2003, first with Tony Warren and from 2010 with his teacher Jim Uglow. In 2010 I also began to study the Southern Gongfu style of Hung Kuen, also with Jim Uglow.
In April 2014 I started my new practice 'Sligo Acupuncture and Tuina' at the Sligo Wellness Centre and in February 2015 formed Sligo Tai Chi, a traditional Yeung (Yang) Family Tai Chi Club.
